What you see on screen
Type details like names, numbers, and dates into a form's gaps as you hear them; the recording plays once. Most common in the Part 1 conversation.
How it is marked
One mark per gap with exact spelling required; a misspelled name scores zero even if heard correctly. Answers arrive in the form's order.
Strategy
- Preview the form's labels to predict each answer type: a price, a postcode, a surname, a time.
- Write letters as they are spelled aloud; Part 1 speakers often spell names character by character.
- Keep numbers as digits like 15, which are faster to type and count as one word.
- Expect corrections where a speaker changes a number or date mid-sentence; the final version counts.
Traps that cost marks
Mishearing fifteen as fifty; similar-sounding numbers are a favourite distractor in Part 1.
Typing the first detail mentioned before the speaker corrects it with the real one.
Now try it under exam conditions.
